Games have been a huge part of my life. I like them for the challenge and as a way to socialise a bit. I enjoy a bit of healthy competition and I like being made to think.
Computer/Console gaming
On the Wii: I still have a few sid emissions with Ada to complete on Resident Evil 4 but I can't wait any longer. I'm playing Transformers for the Wii. It looks good but the moving camera is frustrating as is some of the combat sequences where only one tactic will ever work. Fortunately, I didn't buy the game, I only borrowed it.
On the Dual-Screen: Finished the New Super-Mario Bros. which was short but fun. I'm going back and trying to fill in what I missed from time to time. Most of my devotion is now lavished upon Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords now. It's very, very addicting. I'm also slowly sloggin my way through Phoenix Wright, Ace Attorney 2: Justice for All but only at work on lunch breaks. It's a lot of fun when things are moving.
On the Computer: Abandoned and reformatted as a media server for the home. One of these days I'll put a game on it again...
I've been on computers since the Radio Shack Color Computer 2 (I think dad still have a prototype tucked away somewhere with 4k onboard memory!). Yes, I'm that old and I started that young.
I'm mainly a fan of first person shooters. I started with the original Id Wolfensteind and worked my way up through thier line or 2d shooters. Somehow, I missed Quake. I picked up Quake 2, then skipped forward to Return to Castle Wofenstein. This circle, as they say, is complete.
I also have a thing for Star Wars FPS games. I think I have them all from Dark Forces 2 and up, including Jedi Academy and Republic Commando. I've also enjoyed a few other genre games such as American McGee's Alice and Alien vs Predator 2 (which has the best in-game atmosphere ever. Spot-on with the Alien movies).
Flight Sims and Combat Flight Sims are also another favorite of mine. While I have not gotten into any modern games, I used to play the Wing Commander and Star Wars lines to death. Red Baron 2 and A-10 Tank Killer were also a couple notable titles.
My RPG catalogue was always pretty light. I played a lot fo early Sierra titles, but that was it until Neverwinter Nights. I still haven't picked up the sequel.
I do not like real-time strategy games.
CCGs
I used to be an avid CCG player. I only had the money to focus on one game at a time competitively and maybe another one socially. Here's a list of some of my more extensive investments ;) :
- Wizard of the Coasts's Magic: The Gathering
- Decipher's Star Wars
- Score's Dragonball Z
- Decipher's Lord of the Rings
- Decipher's //.hack/ENEMY
RPG games
Currently, I am playing in one game, running one game, and planning one game.
Playing: Simon's Game on every other Friday. This is an old Underdark adventure he is adapting on the fly for D&D 3.5. The party is composed entirely of Dwarfs. Mine is the most uncommon sort. Meet Kraten and his familiar, Dago.
Running: Expedition to Castle Ravenloft. Here is the link to our groups Google group page. More game data is being uploaded as time goes on. One of our players is starting a narrative to help us look back on our previous sessions in a less clinical manner...
Planning: Star Wars: Saga Edition. I had a one-shot adventure designed to be played over the course of an evening and I lost it. So much for updating, I'll be pulling it together from scratch. Set in the Tales of the Jedi period around the time of the Freedon Nadd uprising.
I didn't get into RPGs until after high school. I tend to just buy the minimum to play. Here's a brief list of the games I have enjoyed:
- TSR's Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition
- Palladium's Ninjas & Superspies, Robotech, and Macross
- White Wolf's Vampire
- Mind's Eye Theatre's World of Darkness LARP
- Wizard of the Coast's Dungeons & Dragons 3.5th edition
- Wizard of the Coast's Star Wars (Original, Revised)
- Wizard of the Coast's Oriental Adventures (and Rokugan supplement from AEG)
- Wizard of the Coast's Wheel of Time, Prophecy of the Dragon.
